About This Scan

What Is a CT Pelvis Scan?

A CT Pelvis Scan uses a 160-slice multi-detector CT scanner to create detailed cross-sectional images of the pelvic region — including the bladder, uterus, ovaries, prostate, rectum, hip bones, pelvic blood vessels and lymph nodes. It is one of the most important diagnostic tools for evaluating pelvic pain, tumours, injuries and organ disorders.

At Usmanpura Imaging Centre, our 160-slice CT technology captures the entire pelvis in a matter of seconds, delivering crisp, high-resolution images that empower your doctor to diagnose accurately and plan treatment confidently. Our expert radiologists provide a comprehensive, signed report the same day — with no compromises on quality or affordability.

Whether you have unexplained pelvic pain, suspected cancer staging, a hip fracture, or a bladder disorder — a CT Pelvis scan gives the clearest possible picture quickly and comfortably.

How It Works

How Does CT Pelvis Scan Work?

CT uses X-rays taken from hundreds of angles and a powerful computer to create detailed cross-sectional images of the pelvis. Here's the process step by step:

1

X-Ray Gantry Rotates

The CT gantry rotates 360° around your body, capturing hundreds of X-ray projections from different angles in seconds.

2

Tissue Density Measured

Detectors measure how X-rays pass through different pelvic structures — bone, muscle, fat, organs, fluid and blood vessels each absorb differently.

3

3D Images Reconstructed

Advanced software reconstructs data into crisp 2D cross-sections, coronal, sagittal views and 3D models of pelvic structures.

4

Expert Report Delivered

Our specialist radiologist analyses the images and delivers a comprehensive, signed report the same day.

160-Slice Multi-Detector CT

Our 160-slice CT scanner captures the entire pelvis in a single breath-hold — delivering razor-sharp images of all pelvic organs, bones and vascular structures simultaneously, at the lowest possible radiation dose.

Anatomy

Understanding the Pelvic Region

The pelvis is the bowl-shaped bony cavity at the base of the abdomen, formed by the hip bones, sacrum and coccyx. It houses critical reproductive, urinary and digestive organs — all of which can be clearly evaluated on CT.

CT Pelvis is particularly powerful because it simultaneously images bones, soft tissues, blood vessels and lymph nodes in a single scan — providing your doctor with the complete picture needed for accurate diagnosis.

What CT Pelvis reveals:

1
Pelvic organ size, shape, position and internal architecture
2
Masses, tumours and cysts within pelvic organs
3
Pelvic bone fractures, joint disease and avascular necrosis
4
Bladder wall thickening, stones and diverticula
5
Lymph node enlargement suggesting metastasis or infection
6
Vascular abnormalities — iliac artery aneurysm, DVT
7
Post-surgical evaluation and treatment response monitoring

Before Your Scan

How to Prepare for CT Pelvis Scan

Follow these guidelines to ensure a safe, accurate scan. Our staff will give you specific instructions when you book.

Do's – What To Do

  • Fast for 4–6 hours if a contrast CT has been prescribed by your doctor
  • Drink 2–3 glasses of water 1 hour before your scan (unless instructed otherwise)
  • Arrive 15–20 minutes early with your prescription and previous scan reports
  • Inform staff if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or trying to conceive
  • Tell the team about any kidney problems, diabetes or previous contrast reactions
  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing without metal zippers, buttons or hooks
  • Inform staff of all current medications — especially Metformin for diabetes
  • Follow full-bladder instructions if specified for your particular scan type

Don'ts – What To Avoid

  • Do not eat or drink (except water) for 4–6 hours before a contrast CT scan
  • Do not take Metformin 48 hours before and after a contrast CT (consult doctor)
  • Do not wear jewellery, belts, chains or clothing with metal near the pelvic area
  • Do not move during the scan — even slight motion blurs the images significantly
  • Do not hide history of allergies, especially to iodine or previous contrast reactions
  • Avoid gas-producing foods the evening before (for abdominopelvic CT scans)
  • Do not bring mobile phones, watches or metal accessories into the scan room
  • Avoid breastfeeding for 24–48 hours after IV contrast injection (consult doctor)
Note on Contrast CT Pelvis (with Contrast Dye): For many pelvic conditions — especially cancer staging, vascular disease and organ characterisation — your doctor may request a contrast-enhanced CT. This involves an IV injection of iodine-based dye. Please inform our team if you have kidney disease, thyroid problems, diabetes (on Metformin) or any history of allergic reactions to contrast media before your appointment.
Step by Step

What Happens During Your CT Pelvis Scan?

Simple, quick and completely comfortable. Here's exactly what to expect at Usmanpura Imaging Centre.

1

Registration & Check-In

Present prescription. Staff creates your file, verifies details and collects safety questionnaire.

2

Safety & Contrast Check

Staff screens for allergies, kidney function, diabetes medications and pregnancy before any contrast injection.

3

Positioning on CT Table

Lie on the CT table. Remove metal, change if required. Technician positions you correctly for the pelvic scan.

4

The CT Scan (5–15 min)

The gantry moves quietly. You may be asked to hold your breath briefly. The actual image capture takes only seconds.

5

Report Delivery

Radiologist reviews images and prepares a comprehensive report — delivered same day via WhatsApp, email or in person.

Patient reassurance: The CT machine is wide and open — far less enclosed than an MRI. Most patients find it very comfortable. There is no pain, no noise beyond a gentle whir of the gantry, and the scan itself is complete in just a few seconds. You can resume all normal activities immediately after the scan.
FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about CT Pelvis scan — answered clearly.

Is CT Pelvis Scan safe? How much radiation is involved?
+
CT Pelvis uses ionising radiation (X-rays), but our 160-slice scanner uses low-dose protocols based on the ALARA principle (As Low As Reasonably Achievable). The radiation dose is carefully calibrated — significantly lower than older CT machines — and the diagnostic benefit always outweighs the minimal risk for clinically indicated scans. Always inform our team if you are pregnant, as CT Pelvis is generally avoided in pregnancy unless absolutely essential.
What is the difference between CT Pelvis and CT Abdomen & Pelvis?
+
A CT Pelvis scan covers only the pelvic region (below the iliac crests). A CT Abdomen & Pelvis covers both the abdomen (liver, kidneys, spleen, pancreas) and the pelvis together — it is a more comprehensive scan. Your doctor will prescribe whichever region is relevant to your clinical situation. If you are unsure, please bring your prescription and we will clarify.
What is the cost of CT Pelvis Scan in Ahmedabad?
+
At Usmanpura Imaging Centre, CT Pelvis for a plain (non-contrast) scan. A contrast-enhanced CT Pelvis may cost slightly more. A combined CT Abdomen + Pelvis is also available at competitive pricing. Please call or WhatsApp us with your exact prescription for an accurate quote. We are significantly cheaper than corporate hospitals while maintaining the same diagnostic quality.
How long does a CT Pelvis Scan take?
+
The actual CT acquisition takes only 3–5 seconds for the 160-slice scanner. Total time at the centre, including registration, preparation and the scan itself, is usually 15–30 minutes. If contrast dye is required, there is a brief wait after the IV injection before scanning — total time may extend to 45 minutes. You can resume all normal activities immediately after.
Is CT Pelvis scan painful? Do I need anaesthesia?
+
No, CT Pelvis is completely painless and requires no sedation or anaesthesia. You simply lie on the CT table and the gantry rotates around you. The machine makes a gentle whirring sound. You may be asked to hold your breath for a few seconds during image acquisition. If contrast is required, a small IV cannula is inserted in your arm — this is a brief, minimal discomfort similar to a routine blood test.
Can CT detect ovarian cysts or uterine fibroids?
+
Yes, CT can detect ovarian cysts, complex ovarian masses, uterine fibroids and other pelvic masses. However, for detailed characterisation of uterine and ovarian pathology, MRI Pelvis is often preferred as it provides superior soft-tissue contrast. CT is excellent for evaluating the extent of disease, lymph node involvement and metastasis. Your gynaecologist will recommend the appropriate scan based on your specific situation.
When will I receive my CT Pelvis report?
+
We deliver same-day reports for CT Pelvis scans. After your scan, our specialist radiologist reviews the images and prepares a comprehensive written report. You can collect it in person at the centre or receive it via WhatsApp or email — whichever is convenient. For urgent cases, expedited reporting is available — please inform our staff at registration.
Can I have a CT Pelvis scan if I am pregnant?
+
CT Pelvis is generally avoided during pregnancy due to radiation exposure to the developing foetus. However, in life-threatening emergency situations where no alternative is available, the clinical benefit may outweigh the risk — this decision is always made by your treating doctor. If there is any possibility of pregnancy, please inform our staff before the scan. Ultrasound or MRI are the preferred imaging options during pregnancy.
